Central: More than just a Railway Station

The Sydney Business Chamber says news of new dining and market facilities at Central Station suggests the station is on its way to becoming a world-class transport hub and social precinct.

“Central Station is a major gateway to Sydney and its reimagination as something more than just a transport hub will kick-start the future development of the precinct as a jobs and economic centre,” said Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.

“This is about reimagining the way we use railway stations as retail, dining and meeting places.

“The opportunity Sydney Metro and the new light rail presents cannot be overstated.

“Central Station will not just be a railway station but an exciting and vibrant meeting place for Sydneysiders and visitors where they will be able to eat, drink and shop,” Mrs Forsythe said.

“Sydney is incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful and iconic building and work being done under and around the station will revolutionise Australia’s busiest station in the way rail stations in Europe and North America are being revitalised into community meeting places.

“The Central redevelopment will be the catalyst for the creation of a new innovation and technology precinct at Central to Eveleigh, where there is a cluster of world-leading education, health and training institutions surrounded by high density and mixed-use precincts, giving Sydney an opportunity to attract investment and grow jobs,” Mrs Forsythe said.
