Construction of light rail terminus at Circular Quay

Circular Quay will soon be a major public transport interchange thanks to the addition of a light rail terminus.

The new terminus will connect the CBD and South East Light Rail to trains, buses and ferries.

Sydney Business Chamber Executive Director Patricia Forsythe said the light rail project was on track in transforming Sydney as a 21st century city.

“Circular Quay is one of the main gateways to our city so it makes good sense to establish a light rail terminus adjacent to our harbour,” she said.

“Like many major cities across the globe, commuters will have to change modes of travel before they reach their final destination and a light rail terminus at Circular Quay will complement the ferry, train and bus services available to visitors and city workers,” Mrs Forsythe said.

NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the construction milestone heralded the transformation of Circular Quay.

“Customers will be able to interchange between all public transport modes at the Circular Quay terminus, improving access to this global precinct and making travelling easier and quicker.

“It’s expected that trips into the city centre will balloon to about 780,000 per day by 2031, which is why we’re creating a better, fully-integrated transport network for Sydneysiders.

The Sydney Light Rail will provide high frequency turn up and go transport services from Circular Quay and Kingsford from 2019.
