Design Policy Built to Last a Lifetime

The Sydney Business Chamber says the state’s first design policy will assist in ensuring the best principles are applied when planning places in Sydney and NSW.
“Better Placed is a great policy for managing Sydney’s growth and a step forward in ensuring liveability and sense of place are considered when thinking about the future,” said Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.
“This is more than just building design; it is encompassing the importance of amenity and sustainability in the built environment.
“While more housing is needed to alleviate Sydney’s housing affordability crisis, things such as transport connectivity, green, open space and walkability are equally important when considering how to solve this issue.
“It is crucial that when planning for new spaces that these are taken into account,” Mrs Forsythe said.
“This policy will also challenge community opposition that can sometimes emerge when development applications are put forward as it will ensure the boxes for best design practice are ticked.
“Having a set of guidelines for planners and architects will help safeguard the city’s future when it comes to urban design and planning,” she said.
